FAQ for Therapy in Connecticut and Virginia
You’re tired of second guessing yourself and feeling like you’re not good enough. You’re ready to finally feel calm and confident in your relationships and your career. You’re ready to invest in yourself and your growth. You’re just about ready to schedule your consultation, but… you have a few more questions first before you do. Let me answer some of your questions about online therapy in Connecticut and Virginia.
What is Online Therapy?
Online therapy or counseling is psychotherapy that occurs using audio/video technology, similar to Skype or Facetime. It’s super easy and convenient. You’ll find a quiet and private room where you have a good internet connection and a webcam. I’ll send you a secure link which you will click a few minutes before our session. Our videos will pop up and we will be face-to-face! Learn more in my blog post here.
How often will we meet for therapy?
Our sessions will be scheduled weekly until you reach your goals. I have found that my clients who meet on a weekly basis start feeling better much quicker than those meeting less frequently. Weekly sessions allow us to develop a strong therapeutic relationship and get right into progressing towards your goals!
Can we work together?
I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Connecticut (#1812) and Virginia (#0717001590) and am able to work with any women who are located in these states. Contact me if you live in a location outside of CT or VA - some states and countries have different rules that could allow us to work together.
What is your availability?
I offer daytime appointments - morning and afternoon - between 9am and 5pm. We will schedule a consistent time for our sessions to recur on a weekly basis. This will make it easier to plan around and you’ll have a consistent time in your schedule focused on you and your growth!
How much does psychotherapy cost?
The fee is $180 per 55 minute individual online therapy session.
Do you take my insurance?
I am in-network with Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield and Carefirst BCBS PPO plans. Check with your particular plan about coverage for Telehealth.
I am an out-of-network provider for most other insurance PPO plans. If your plan offers it, your insurance company may pay for a portion of your health treatment. Check with your insurance company to see if you have this out-of-network benefit. To use your benefit, you will pay me directly at the time of service, and I will provide you with a special receipt called a “superbill” you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. You may also decide to use an app called Reimbursify, that allows you to quickly apply for reimbursement.
How do you keep my therapy information private?
All client records are stored in a cloud based system with bank level encryption that is HIPAA certified, encrypted, and kept secure. Learn more here: https://www.simplepractice.com/security
Video therapy sessions are only held over HIPAA compliant software that ensures that our communications are encrypted. I currently use Doxy.me as my video platform, which uses point-to-point encryption, and your PHI is never stored on Doxy.me servers. Doxy.me complies with HIPAA, GDPR, PHIPA/PIPEDA, & HITECH requirements.

How does a video consultation work?
Once your consultation is confirmed, I’ll send you a link to my HIPAA-compliant video platform. Simply follow the tips I will provide you on how to have a strong video connection. Then all you have to do is click the link a few minutes before our meeting and type in your name! Our videos will pop up and we’ll be able to chat face to face :) I love doing video consultations because we get to meet one another and you get a feel for online therapy with me. Our consultation will be a place for you to ask questions, tell me a bit about what’s going on for you, and for us to see if we’re a good fit. If we decide we’re not a match, I’ll happily offer you some referrals of other therapists you may decide to contact.
